A mini case study for an international ecommerce multibrand.
In this project, I served as the Lead E-commerce SEO Consultant.
Goals
The primary objective was to resolve various technical SEO issues, including hreflang implementation, canonical tag errors, image optimization, and more.
This case study focuses specifically on the Image SEO strategy and its impact.
What we did
Image search is a good source of traffic for eCommerce, especially in different markets like fashion.
Show products from multiple perspectives with packaging shots, lifestyle contexts, and real-world usage scenarios.
Customers want to see exactly what they’re buying and how it fits into their lives.
Some implementation:
- Aim for a minimum 1,500 x 1,500 pixel resolution (it depends)
- Use WebP (or similar) for faster loading speeds without quality loss
- Use descriptive filenames like “football-shoes-for-men.webp”
- Write detailed alt text describing what’s shown for accessibility and search context. Here, we can use two techniques to better rank images on Product Detail Pages and Product Listing Pages
- In product pages -> inserted loading=”eager” for the first image, for the second “low”, and for the images below the lazy load
- Upload 5-8 images per product in Google Merchant Center, prioritizing your highest-margin items when resources are limited. More images typically correlate with better performance and Top Quality Store status.
- Upload images from different angles in ecommerce. Below is an example.
Results
During our monthly collaboration, we achieved exceptional results (as illustrated in the Google Search Console graph below), which directly contributed to an increase in sales.
